Montague Athletics Soar Through Successful Week

It was another successful week for Montague Athletics as the Eagles and Lady Eagles turned in impressive performances in cross country, football, and volleyball.
The Montague Cross Country teams continued to show tremendous improvement at the Alvord Wyatt Dickerson Invitational on Wednesday, September 16.
The Lady Eagles improved across the board, with every runner posting a faster time than at the previous week’s Muenster Invitational. Leading the way in the 8th grade division was Sage Keck, who captured 1st place with an impressive personal-best time of 11:31. Carley Richardson and Kenzi McEwen also had strong races, finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. In the 7th grade division, Kynlee Raley led the Lady Eagles with a new personal-record time.
The Eagle boys also had plenty to celebrate. Leroy Hord and Trip Yarbrough each improved their personal records by an incredible one minute, while Gus Mowery and Ty Kleinhans each recorded two-minute personal records. The continued improvement by both teams is a testament to the athletes' hard work and dedication.
Success continued on the football field as the football team earned an impressive 38–13 victory over the Prairie Valley Bulldogs, improving their season record to 2–1.
Cutter Garrett led the Eagles with an outstanding three-touchdown performance, scoring twice on the ground and adding an explosive kickoff-return touchdown. Leroy Hord, Ryker Hankins, and Colt Garrett each added rushing touchdowns as Montague displayed a balanced offensive attack.
Defensively, Wade Hughes had a huge night with six tackles and three sacks, consistently disrupting the Prairie Valley offense. Koa Alverez-Self added five tackles and also contributed offensively with an 18-yard reception.
The Lady Eagles volleyball team added another victory to the week by hosting Christ Academy on Monday and earning a 25–15, 25–10 win.
Kynzlea Rios had an outstanding all-around performance, leading the Lady Eagles with six aces, six kills, and five assists. Courtney Bobbitt added four aces, while Molly Romine and Finleigh Travis were perfect from the service line, each serving 100% for the match. Travis and Cayde Harris also contributed three kills apiece. Sage Keck paced the defensive end with 6 digs.
From personal records on the cross country course to big wins on the football field and volleyball court, it was a great week to be an Eagle! The Lady Eagles volleyball team will travel to Era on Monday for two games beginning at 5:00 p.m., cross country will go to Lindsay on Wednesday and football will face Gold-Burg.
