Montague ISD Receives $30,000 Grant to Support Local Businesses and Strengthen Farm-to-School Connections
Montague, TX – Montague Independent School District (MISD) is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture. This funding will enhance our efforts to connect with local farmers, ranchers, and small businesses, ultimately bringing more Texas-grown food to our students’ trays.
We are proud to partner with Nocona Meat Market in Nocona, TX, and Demases Farm in Sunset, TX, to provide our students with high-quality, locally-sourced food. This initiative not only supports the local economy but also promotes healthier eating habits among our students by offering them fresh, nutritious options.
The grant will be instrumental in expanding our farm-to-school programs, allowing us to purchase more local produce and meats, and incorporate them into our school meals. By strengthening these connections, we aim to foster a greater appreciation for Texas agriculture among our students and the community.
"We are grateful for this support from the Texas Department of Agriculture," said Carla Hennessey, superintendent at MISD. "This grant allows us to reinforce our commitment to healthy eating while supporting our local farmers and businesses."
