Montague Eagles and Lady Eagles Shine at Forestburg’s Inaugural Track Meet
The Montague Eagles and Lady Eagles traveled to Forestburg High School this week to compete in the first-ever track meet held on the school’s brand-new track. Competing against 12 teams, both Montague squads delivered outstanding performances, bringing home multiple first-place finishes and several new school records.
The Montague Lady Eagles had an exceptional day, finishing 2nd overall as a team. Leading the charge was distance standout Sage Keck, who dominated the distance events. Keck captured 1st place in all three of her races, setting new school records in each event. She won the 2400m with a time of 8:30.63, the 1600m in 5:36.85, and the 800m in 2:35.10, continuing her incredible season on the track.
Distance runner Kenzi McEwen also had a strong showing, placing 3rd in the 2400m with a time of 10:34.13 and 4th in the 1600m with a time of 7:04.51.
Sprinter Jalena Rodriguez turned in a record-breaking performance in the 400m, winning the event with a new school record time of 1:08.92. Rodriguez also placed 3rd in the 200m (30.82) and 5th in the 100m (14.93).
In the hurdles, Joanna Parr placed 6th overall in the 100m hurdles with a time of 22.61.
The Montague Eagles boys team also delivered a strong performance, finishing 3rd overall among the 12 competing teams.
Distance runner Levi Newland had a record-breaking day, winning the 2400m in 8:52.21 and the 1600m in 5:23.00, setting new school records in both events. He also earned 2nd place in the 800m with a time of 2:25.69.
Sprinter Caiden Young captured 1st place in the 200m with a time of 26.82 and also placed 3rd in discus with a throw of 85’6”.
Hurdler Cason Harris delivered a standout performance as well, winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 19.78. Harris also finished 2nd in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.68, breaking his own school record, and placed 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 2½”.
Brazos Jones had a strong day in multiple events, finishing 2nd in shot put with a throw of 36’4” and 4th in the 100mwith a time of 14.10. Teammate Aiden Chavez added points for the Eagles with a 6th-place finish in shot put at 30’11”.
The Montague boys 4x100m relay team—Cutter Garrett, Cason Harris, Brazos Jones, and Caiden Young—placed 3rd overall with a time of 52.05, breaking the school record.
With strong performances across the board and multiple school records falling, the Eagles and Lady Eagles continue to build momentum early in the season.
The teams will return to competition Monday, March 16, following spring break, when they travel to Nocona High School for their next track meet.
