The Montague Eagles and Lady Eagles traveled to Nocona High School on March 16th for their latest track meet, continuing to build momentum with impressive finishes, personal records, and multiple first-place victories.
The Montague Lady Eagles were once again led by standout distance runners Sage Keck and Kenzi McEwen. Keck had another dominant performance, placing 1st in all three of her events while setting new personal records in two. She ran 8:33.00 in the 2400m, 2:28.95 in the 800m, and 5:39.96 in the 1600m, showcasing her consistency and endurance across all distances.
McEwen also had an outstanding meet, taking 1st place in both of her events. She won the 2400m with a time of 10:44and set a new personal record in the 1600m with a time of 6:53.90, highlighting her continued growth as a distance runner.
Sprinter Jalena Rodriguez delivered a strong all-around performance, placing 2nd in all three of her events: the 100m (14.55), 200m (32.41), and 400m (1:12.20).
In the hurdles, Joanna Parr earned a 2nd-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 22.21, continuing to be a key contributor for the Lady Eagles.
Madison Fomby showed versatility across events, placing 4th in shot put with a throw of 22’ 2.5”, 4th in the 200m (33.58), and 6th in the 100m (15.75).
For the Montague Eagles boys team, several athletes delivered standout performances across running and field events.
Distance standout Levi Newland mirrored Keck’s success, placing 1st in all three of his running events while achieving multiple personal records. He ran 8:32.00 in the 2400m, 2:28.71 in the 800m, and 5:24.10 in the 1600m, and also added a 4th-place finish in long jump (15’ 2.75”) to round out an impressive day.
On the field side, Hayden Hennessy added valuable points with a 5th-place finish in shot put (27’ 0.25”) and 4th in discus (64’).
Brazos Jones led the field events with a 1st-place finish in shot put (34’ 2.5”), 2nd in discus (77’11”), and also placed 6th in the 200m (29.33).
Teammate Aiden Chavez had a strong showing as well, earning 2nd in shot put (29’ 8.5”), 6th in discus (69’9”), and competing in the 800m for the first time, where he placed 6th (2:48.78).
Caiden Young contributed across multiple events, placing 2nd in the 200m (26.86), 3rd in the 100m (12.99), 3rd in discus (75’0”), and 5th in long jump (15’0”).
With numerous personal records, first-place finishes, and consistent performances across both teams, the Montague Eagles and Lady Eagles continue to show growth and determination as the season progresses.
The Montague Eagles and Lady Eagles traveled to Forestburg High School this week to compete in the first-ever track meet held on the school’s brand-new track. Competing against 12 teams, both Montague squads delivered outstanding performances, bringing home multiple first-place finishes and several new school records.
The Montague Lady Eagles had an exceptional day, finishing 2nd overall as a team. Leading the charge was distance standout Sage Keck, who dominated the distance events. Keck captured 1st place in all three of her races, setting new school records in each event. She won the 2400m with a time of 8:30.63, the 1600m in 5:36.85, and the 800m in 2:35.10, continuing her incredible season on the track.
Distance runner Kenzi McEwen also had a strong showing, placing 3rd in the 2400m with a time of 10:34.13 and 4th in the 1600m with a time of 7:04.51.
Sprinter Jalena Rodriguez turned in a record-breaking performance in the 400m, winning the event with a new school record time of 1:08.92. Rodriguez also placed 3rd in the 200m (30.82) and 5th in the 100m (14.93).
In the hurdles, Joanna Parr placed 6th overall in the 100m hurdles with a time of 22.61.
The Montague Eagles boys team also delivered a strong performance, finishing 3rd overall among the 12 competing teams.
Distance runner Levi Newland had a record-breaking day, winning the 2400m in 8:52.21 and the 1600m in 5:23.00, setting new school records in both events. He also earned 2nd place in the 800m with a time of 2:25.69.
Sprinter Caiden Young captured 1st place in the 200m with a time of 26.82 and also placed 3rd in discus with a throw of 85’6”.
Hurdler Cason Harris delivered a standout performance as well, winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 19.78. Harris also finished 2nd in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.68, breaking his own school record, and placed 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 2½”.
Brazos Jones had a strong day in multiple events, finishing 2nd in shot put with a throw of 36’4” and 4th in the 100mwith a time of 14.10. Teammate Aiden Chavez added points for the Eagles with a 6th-place finish in shot put at 30’11”.
The Montague boys 4x100m relay team—Cutter Garrett, Cason Harris, Brazos Jones, and Caiden Young—placed 3rd overall with a time of 52.05, breaking the school record.
With strong performances across the board and multiple school records falling, the Eagles and Lady Eagles continue to build momentum early in the season.
The teams will return to competition Monday, March 16, following spring break, when they travel to Nocona High School for their next track meet.

The Montague Eagles junior high track teams delivered an outstanding showing this week as they traveled to Bowie, bringing home multiple first-place finishes and an impressive number of new school records.
Leading the way was 7th grader Sage Keck, competing in the 8th grade division, who dominated the distance events by placing 1st in all three of her races while breaking school records in each. Keck captured gold in the 2400m run with a time of 8:39.32, followed by a winning 1600m performance of 5:36.41, and capped off her incredible day with another victory in the 800m (2:37.69). Her triple-record performance marked one of the most impressive individual meets in recent program history.
Levi Newland also etched his name into the record books with a remarkable performance in the boys distance events. Newland broke school records in all three races he competed in, finishing 2nd in the 2400m (8:53.40), 2nd in the 1600m (5:32.22), and claiming 1st place in the 800m with a time of 2:25.09.
Kenzi McEwen added to the Eagles’ success with a strong all-around performance, winning the 2400m (10:35.50), placing 3rd in the 1600m (6:47.12), and finishing 4th in the 400m (1:19.88).
In the hurdles, Cason Harris broke two school records with a time of 18.55 in the 110m hurdles (3rd place) and 48.97 in the 300m hurdles (3rd place), continuing the Eagles’ trend of record-setting performances.
The boys 4x100m relay team of Cutter Garrett, Cason Harris, Brazos Jones, and Caiden Young also made history by breaking the school record with a time of 53.66.

Brazos Jones placed 6th in his heat in the 100m (14.06) and 4th in his heat in the 200m (28.87).
Kyler Fomby finished 2nd in his heat in the 400m (1:17.38).
Caiden Young placed 4th in his heat in the 100m (13.44).
Jalena Rodriguez earned 4th in her heat in the 100m (14.96), 3rd in the 400m (1:13.57), and 2nd in the 200m (32.47).
Joanna Parr finished 5th overall in the 300m hurdles (1:14.98).
Hayden Hennessy placed 4th in his heat in the 100m (16.92).
Wade Hughes placed 6th in his heat in both the 100m (16.75) and 200m (37.45).
Cutter Garrett placed 2nd in his heat in the 100m (14.38) and 6th in the 200m (30.0).
Courtney Bobbitt finished 4th in her heat in the 100m (16.78).
Cayde placed 5th in her heat in the 100m (15.11).
Colt Garrett placed 2nd in his heat in the 200m (34.12).
With numerous personal bests, school records, and podium finishes, the Montague Eagles continue to show tremendous growth and competitiveness early in the season. Their next track meet is at Forestburg on March 5th.
Montague Junior High basketball teams hosted Gold-Burg Thursday, beginning with a celebratory 8th Grade Night honoring a remarkable group of student-athletes.
The Montague Boys set the tone early, overpowering Gold-Burg 56–12 behind a balanced offensive effort and stifling defense. Cason Harris led all scorers with 16 points, while Aiden Chavez and Caiden Young each added 12 points. Young also knocked down two three-point baskets. Levi Newland contributed 8 points, Brazos Jones finished with 4, and Alex Chavez and Colt Garrett rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece. The Eagles’ depth, energy, and discipline were on full display as they capped off another outstanding district performance.
The Montague Lady Eagles followed with a dominant 32–11 win over the Gold-Burg Lady Bears, finishing their junior high season undefeated in district play. Defense set the tone immediately, as Montague held Gold-Burg scoreless in the first quarter and never allowed momentum to shift.
On a special 8th Grade Night, JoAnna Parr delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 12 points on 50% shooting while pulling down 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. Sage Keck continued her relentless defensive play, scoring 8 points, tying the school record with 13 steals, going 2-for-2 at the free-throw line, and adding 3 assists. Kynzlea Rios also chipped in 8 points, attacking the basket aggressively and recording 2 assists and 5 steals.
The Lady Eagles dominated the glass as well, with Madison Fomby hauling in 9 rebounds to go along with 2 points. Lily Gray added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Cayde Harris filled the stat sheet with 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block, while Kenzi McEwen and Carley Richardson each contributed on the boards and defensively.
The night also served as a celebration of Montague ISD’s 8th grade students and their families, recognizing years of dedication both in the classroom and in competition.
JoAnna Parr, daughter of BJ and Kristen Parr and Amanda Parr of Bowie, has attended Montague since 2nd grade and will attend Bellevue High School. She participated in basketball, cross country, track, two years of cheer, and three years of volleyball.
Madison and Kyler Fomby, children of Kara and Justin Fomby of Montague, returned to MISD this year after attending in PK and Kindergarten. Madison competed in cross country, volleyball, and basketball, while Kyler ran cross country and served as basketball manager. Both will attend Nocona High School.
Aiden Chavez, son of Adon and Amanda Chavez of Bowie, has been at Montague since 6th grade and will attend Bowie High School. He competed in football, cross country, basketball, track, and tennis all three years and broke the school record for rebounds this season with 20 in a single game.
Jalena Rodriguez, daughter of Shalen Hilliard of Nocona, has attended MISD since 1st grade. She cheered, played tennis and cross country for two years, volleyball and basketball for two years, and ran track for three years.
Cason Harris, son of Christopher and Sarah Harris of Bowie, has been at Montague since 6th grade. He participated in basketball and track all three years, football for two, and cross country for one. Harris broke the school record for steals this season with 13 and also set a new school record in the 300 hurdles.
Brazos Jones, son of Brad and Polly Jones of Bowie, has been at Montague since 2nd grade and will attend Bowie High School. He competed in football, cross country, basketball, track, and tennis all three years and set the school record for most blocks in a game with 9 against Forestburg.
Levi Newland, son of William and Christina Newland of Nocona, has attended since 6th grade. He participated in football, cross country, basketball, track, and tennis all three years and won district in cross country last year setting a new school record and also broke the school record in the 2400 meter in track, and single game 3 pointers in basketball.
Lily Gray, daughter of Whit and Ashley Gray of Bowie, will attend Bowie High School and has been at MISD since Pre-K. She played volleyball all three years and participated in basketball and cheer for two.
Caiden Young, son of Rachel and Shawn Death of Boyd and Brian Young of Nocona, will attend Bowie High School and has been at MISD since Pre-K. He competed in football, cross country, track, and basketball all three years and won the district championship in the 200-meter dash last season.
Athletically, this group leaves behind an exceptional legacy. Girls’ basketball ended the season undefeated with a three-year district record of 22–4 and an overall mark of 28–12, earning an undefeated district banner this season. In volleyball, the girls posted a 38–13 overall record and 20–6 in district play, with an undefeated season last year.
The boys’ basketball team boasts a perfect 10–0 district record this season, a three-year district mark of 19–8, and an overall record of 29–13. They also had an undefeated football season this year for the first time since 2019.
Beyond basketball, these athletes have excelled across multiple sports. Both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams captured district championships for the first time in school history during their 7th grade year, with the boys also winning in 6th grade. The girls’ track team finished as district runners-up last season.
The boys will play one last basketball game at Saint Jo Thursday, February 12th. Track season begins at Bowie February 26th.
The Montague Eagles delivered a dominant all-around performance Thursday night, cruising to a convincing 58–21 road victory over Forestburg and continuing their strong stretch of play.
Leading the charge was Levi Newland, who put together a standout night with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals, setting the tone early on both ends of the floor. Newland’s scoring burst helped Montague jump out to an early lead that they never relinquished.
The Eagles’ defensive pressure proved overwhelming, with Cason Harris wreaking havoc in the passing lanes. Harris finished with 14 points and an impressive 7 steals, repeatedly disrupting Forestburg’s offense and turning defense into fast-break opportunities.
Inside the paint, Brazos Jones controlled the boards, posting a strong double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. His presence limited second-chance opportunities and helped Montague maintain control throughout the game.
Caiden Young delivered a well-rounded effort, contributing 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists, showcasing the Eagles’ depth and unselfish play. Hayden Hennessey, Jake Harner, and Colt Garrett provided valuable minutes, combining for 3 assists, 8 steals, and 3 rebounds, further highlighting Montague’s team-first mentality and defensive intensity.
With relentless pressure, balanced scoring, and strong rebounding, the Eagles pulled away early and never looked back. Montague will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue district play with confidence on both sides of the ball. They will be back in action on January 29th. This night is also our annual Teacher Appreciation Night.
